Unlike the freestyle games in this section, this one has rivals and a finish line, and that changes the calculation on every jump. A big landing looks good and costs a second; a flat one is dull and wins races.
The off-road terrain keeps the trucks working — ruts pull the steering, and a wheel dropping into one mid-corner is enough to lose a place.
Races are short, so a mistake is recoverable but only just.
Courses loop, so the rough section that caught you out on lap one returns on lap two with the field closer behind.
Truck upgrades come from finishing positions rather than collectibles, which keeps the racing honest.
