Twelve routes across open country give the game more variety than its simple presentation suggests, and coins earned on each unlock jeeps that handle the ruts rather than bouncing across them.

Routes cross open savannah and dry riverbeds, and the dry beds are quick if you trust them and expensive if you clip the bank.

1. Choose a route and an opponent — friend or computer.
2. Hang back slightly in dust rather than following nose to tail.
3. Collect coins to unlock better safari jeeps.
4. Finish first to take the route.
